Tooth Extractions in Shelby Township, MI

What Makes Our Tooth Extractions Different

Comfort-Focused Treatment

Strong, precise numbing makes the area completely comfortable before we begin. Most patients feel only pressure, not sharp pain. For very anxious patients, we offer sedation options so you can relax through the visit.

Accurate Digital Imaging

Digital X-rays give us a clear picture of the tooth roots and surrounding bone. This helps us plan a safe, efficient extraction and avoid surprises. Better planning often means a smoother procedure and easier healing.

Simple and Surgical Extractions

Whether your tooth is loose from gum disease, broken at the gumline, or impacted, we can treat many cases right in our office. We use gentle techniques that protect the surrounding bone and tissue as much as possible. When a case is very complex, we discuss referral options and coordinate your care.

Protection of Nearby Teeth

We remove the problem tooth while taking care not to damage neighboring teeth or restorations. This helps preserve your bite and makes future replacement, such as an implant or bridge, more predictable.

Clear Aftercare and Support

You leave with easy, written instructions on what to do at home. We explain how to manage normal soreness, what to avoid, and when to call us. Our team stays available to answer questions and help you feel confident during recovery.

Planning for Tooth Replacement

When a tooth that supports your bite or smile must be removed, we talk about replacement options in advance. This may include dental implants, bridges, or partial dentures. You get a plan that fits your goals, timeline, and budget.

Why Tooth Extractions Are Sometimes the Healthiest Choice

Stop Ongoing Pain and Infection

Severe decay, cracks, or failed root canal treatment can lead to constant pain and infection. An infected tooth can affect your sleep, eating, and daily life. Extracting the tooth removes the source of infection and lets your body start to heal.

Protect Nearby Teeth and Bone

An untreated infection can spread to nearby teeth and bone. This may create more complex and costly problems in the future. Removing a badly damaged tooth prevents bacteria from moving into healthy areas and helps preserve your overall oral health.

Address Problem Wisdom Teeth

Impacted or partially erupted wisdom teeth can trap food and bacteria, cause swelling, or push on other teeth. Extraction can relieve pressure, reduce the risk of gum infection, and protect your smile alignment.

Support Orthodontic and Restorative Plans

In some cases, extractions help create space for orthodontic treatment or make room for more stable, long-term restorations. We coordinate with your overall treatment plan so each step supports your final result.

Help You Get Back to Normal Life

Living with constant tooth pain or swelling affects your mood, work, and relationships. A well-planned extraction helps you move past the problem and focus on feeling better.

What to Expect During Your Tooth Extraction

Step 1

Warm Welcome and Evaluation

You are greeted by our team and brought to a comfortable treatment room. We talk about your symptoms, review your health history, and take digital X-rays to see the roots, bone, and surrounding teeth.

Step 2

 Reviewing Your Options

Dr. Tangalos or Dr. Saikaley explains what is happening with the tooth in simple, clear language. We discuss all options, including whether the tooth can be saved, what happens if you wait, and how extraction and replacement would work. You have time to ask questions and decide what feels right for you.

Step 3

Numbing and Comfort

Before we begin, we gently numb the area around the tooth. We only start once you feel fully numb. You can use a blanket or pillow and choose to watch Netflix or listen to music with wireless headphones. If needed, we review sedation options planned before your visit.

Step 4

Gentle Tooth Removal

Using precise instruments and controlled movements, we loosen the tooth from the surrounding bone and remove it. For some teeth, such as impacted wisdom teeth or broken roots, we may section the tooth into smaller pieces to remove it more easily. Throughout the procedure, we check that you remain comfortable.

Step 5

Protecting the Area

Once the tooth is out, we clean the site and place gauze to help a blood clot form. In some cases, we place stitches to support healing. We may also place special material to help preserve bone if you plan to replace the tooth later with an implant.

Step 6

Easy At-Home Instructions and Follow-Up

We review simple aftercare steps, such as how long to keep the gauze in place, what to eat, and how to brush near the area. You receive written instructions to take home. We explain what is normal, what is not, and when to call us. A follow-up visit may be scheduled to check healing and talk more about long-term replacement options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer emergency tooth extractions?

Yes. We do our best to see patients with severe tooth pain or swelling the same day whenever possible. If you think you may need an extraction, call our office so we can arrange prompt care.

Will my insurance cover a tooth extraction?

We work with most PPO insurance plans and are in-network with Delta Dental. Coverage depends on your specific plan. Our team will verify your benefits, estimate your out-of-pocket costs, and review payment options with you before treatment.

What if I am very nervous about getting a tooth pulled?

You are not alone. We see many patients who feel anxious about extractions. Our gentle approach, spa-like environment, and clear step-by-step explanations help most patients feel much more relaxed. We also offer sedation options for those with higher anxiety.

Can you remove wisdom teeth?

We can remove many wisdom teeth in our office, depending on their position and complexity. We use digital imaging to evaluate your case and will refer you to a trusted specialist if we feel that will give you the best and safest result.

Do I have to replace a tooth after it is removed?

Not every tooth needs replacement, but many do. Missing teeth can affect your bite, chewing, jawbone, and smile over time. We will talk with you about options like implants, bridges, or partial dentures so you can plan what is best for your smile and budget.

Can I go back to work after an extraction?

Many patients feel comfortable returning to non-physical work the next day, especially after a simple extraction. If your job is very physical or you have had a surgical extraction, you may want more time to rest. We will give you guidance based on your specific case.

What is a dry socket, and how can I avoid it?

A dry socket happens when the blood clot that protects the bone and nerve becomes dislodged or does not form properly. It can cause strong pain a few days after the extraction. You lower your risk by not smoking, not drinking through a straw, and following our aftercare instructions closely.

How long does it take to heal after a tooth extraction?

Most people feel much better after a few days. Soreness and mild swelling are common at first and usually improve with time, rest, and recommended medication. Complete healing of the socket takes longer, but you can often return to normal, light activities within a day or two.

Will the tooth extraction hurt?

We numb the area around your tooth very carefully before we begin. You may feel pressure but should not feel sharp pain. We check in often during the procedure and can give more anesthetic if you need it.
